Summary:

Greg is the former BBC Director General is Chairman of the FA, Executive Chairman of Ambassador Theatres Group and of the BFI. Greg has also previously chaired GMTV and served on the board of BSkyB, Pearson, Channel 4 and ITN. Greg also guided the creation of Channel 5, and built the largest production company outside America.

Biography:

Educated at Hayes Grammar School and later at York University where he read Politics, Greg started his career early as a journalist, after which he started his broadcasting career in 1977 at London Weekend Television. Gregg became Editor-in-Chief of TV-am in 1983 and the following year Director of Programmes for TVS (Television South

 

At the helm of the BBC, Greg reorganised the structure and reduced administration costs from 24% to 15% of total income. In the course of four years he started four digital TV channels, five new radio networks and helped create Freeview. He also demonstrated a commitment to cultural diversity, both in staff and output. His direct, down to earth, common sense management style has been widely praised and he was applauded for reinvigorating BBC morale and creativity.

 

Greg was also instrumental in the creation of Channel 5 and became its first Chairman.

While at Pearson, Greg Dyke undertook a review of the Patients' Charter of the National Health Service at the request of the Secretary of State for Health. Since joining the BBC, Greg Dyke reorganised its structure with the twin aims of putting him closer to programme-makers and of spending more of the BBC's income on programmes and services for audiences and less on running the organisation.

 

Greg has also made major commitments to use digital technology to provide new education opportunities and to improve the cultural diversity of the workforce and BBC programmes.

 

 

Greg is also a Fellow of the Royal Television Society and Fellow of the National Film and Television School. He is the Chancellor of York University and a non- Executive Director of Manchester United and non –Executive Chairman of Brentwood Football Club.
