Biography:

Gary Neville is England’s most-capped right-back in history and he spent his whole career at Manchester United. He skippered the U18s to victory in The FA Youth Cup Final in 1992 and in the same year made his first-team debut in a UEFA Cup tie against Torpedo Moscow.

He was one of ‘Fergie’s Fledglings’ – with brother Phil, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt – who all made an impact in a youthful United team. He replaced Paul Parker as first-choice right-back and went on to win eight Premier League titles, three FA Cups, one League Cup and two Champions Leagues.

His England debut came against Japan in the ‘Umbro Cup’ at Wembley on 3 June 1995 and his brother joined him in the team for the China friendly before Euro 96. Neville played in five major tournaments, only missing the 2002 World Cup through injury, and he made eleven appearances in European Championship Finals.

In 2009, he was awarded an honorary degree from the University of Bolton for his outstanding contributions to football. In 2010 it was reported that Neville has applied for planning permission to build an eco-friendly home, which would be the first zero-carbon house in northwest England. His testimonial game was reported to be the most eco-friendly game in English football history. He made his international debut in 1995 and was first-choice right-back for club and country for more than ten years. At the time of his retirement he was United's second longest serving player in the squad.
