Angus is an English actor, writer, musician, comedian and broadcaster. He is best known as the former presenter of the satirical panel game ‘Have I Got News for You’. He is also known for his role as Victor Meldrew's long-suffering neighbour Patrick Trench in the comedy series One Foot in the Grave.
Biography:
Gordon Angus Deayton was a student at Oxford. He joined in a revue in Edinburgh called You'll Have Had Your Tea By Now, which evolved into the Radio Four comedy series Radio Active. This in turn became KYTV on the box.
KYTV was a spoof satellite TV show, which set a comedy precedent for The Day Today.
Next came the role of Victor Meldrew's long-suffering next-door neighbour in One Foot In The Grave.
Shortly after this came the show that really made him famous. Sandy Toksvig and Angus Deayton were short-listed to host a new panel show called Have I Got News For You. The choice was made and Angus became the sarky one in the middle.
Since his tenure as host of HIGNFY ended in 2002 Angus can be found hosting one-off specials such as Before They Were Famousand TV Hell.
In 2008 he also presented Comedy Sketchbook, a nostalgic look at classic comedy sketches, on BBC1. He presented the 2008 British Comedy Awards on 6 December 2008, after regular host Jonathan Ross stepped down because of the controversy surrounding the Russell Brand Show prank telephone calls row.
His feature film appearances include starring as the mysterious, "all-knowing man" in That Deadwood Feeling, as well as Swinging with the Finkels, written and directed by Jonathan Newman; with Mandy Moore and Martin Freeman), and Playing the Moldovans at Tennis . He returned to BBC Radio 4 in 2011 to host the panel show ‘It's Your Round’.
On 12 December 2012, it was announced that Deayton had joined the cast of the BBC drama series Waterloo Road in the role of a cynical new Modern Languages teacher and a further role in season 9 as Deputy Head, George Windor. He will make his first appearance in episode 27 of the eighth series, to be broadcast in 2013. In December 2012 he appeared in an edition of the BBC Two series World's Most Dangerous Roads, in which he and co-traveller Mariella Frostrup were filmed driving along the east coast of Madagascar. He co-stars with Anna Chancellor in the BBC sitcom Pramface.
